I came across with this bowl the other day...

As I was going through the pages of the new Alessi spring catalog and thought "oh this is BEAUTIFUL!!"... And then I saw Matali Crasset's picture and of course it had to be her design, so great and simple.

I had an opportunity to work as a staff member for a workshop Matali hosted at my university in 2004 and it was a great experience, I remember she took pictures of everything and she let the students who took her workshop really explore every single concept and design whatever they wanted to. I’ve asked some of my friends who were there to email me some pictures for me to post here.

Anyway, I think Matali has very interesting ideas and great stuff. I’d love to stay at the hi-hotel one of these days.

"look at everyone coming down the mountain"

-“Hey, look at everyone coming down the mountain carrying their snowboards…. Oh! I want to snowboard; we should try it next winter you know.”
That's what Santiago was telling me yesterday as we stood between Whistler and Blackcomb. When he finished what he was saying I turned around, looked at him and said:
-“Did you see that snowboard? That design was awesome. OMG! Look at the one over there!!!”
And after saying that I realized I had to post something about snowboard design.
So I did a little research and found this amazing company of snowboarders making snowboards for snowboarders.
They were established in Vancouver on 2002, and most of their snowboarders/artists are from Vancouver designing for them, so it couldn’t get any better. Great designs and lots of Vancouverites involved.

So thanks endeavor for your cool designs and fresh ideas.
Next winter I MUST learn to snowboard!!!

did you say art?

I recently bumped into this video  and I really thought it would be great sharing it.
His art is very impressive, I really enjoyed reading the "how" of each of his pieces.

Hope you enjoy!

the kind of house I would like to live in (eventually)

Casa IA is located in Valle de Bravo, Mexico.

OMG! I want one like that… but I would like it to be somewhere in a mountain with an ocean view (oh yes, that happens when you live in Vancouver… you always want mountains and ocean views, believe me!)

Turns out, the house was design by bgp, so I’ll tell you a little about him.
Bernardo Gomez Pimienta is a Mexican architect/designer and his work is known not only in Mexico but around the world, in 2008 he was named member of the American Institute of Architects.
I’ve tried some of his chairs and sofas and I must say I like them. I like the simplicity of his furniture as well as the use he gives to stainless steel. Here’s some of the stuff he does.
I hope you enjoy it!

Spring is here! and so am I.

I know I haven’t been a very consistent blogger, but sometimes I just need a fresh start.

Like when you are in the middle of your design process and suddenly you realize that what you’re doing is completely not what you pictured, maybe it was in the beginning but then as you move forward it’s just kind of a mess. That’s how I feel sometimes about things, have you ever had that sensation? Have you ever felt that something was lost in the process?

I read this “ugly phase of creativity” post and came to realize it’s not only me hating what I’m doing and getting all frustrated sometimes… that happens to others as well. So the post made me think (yes… I do think sometimes) that I’m going through this phase with design glimpse…, at the beginning I just wanted to blog about design, but then I happened and I started mixing design with my own experiences, and then I took some time off because I didn’t know if I should continue writing or not. And today I finally came to realize that I can’t separate myself from design because I truly believe we’re connected. Design connects me with others and connects me with myself. Am I making sense at all? Maybe not; I don’t always do.

The thing is that I believe architects, artists, designers and creative people in general are not able to just be creative with some stuff and don’t be creative in other aspects. I think we perceive and feel the world in a different way. That is why I if I want to continue with this blog, you’ll have to read some stuff about me from time to time, because who I am affects not only what I design but also the designs I like or dislike, if that makes any sense at all.

Maybe what I should have said from the beginning was that I’m going to continue with design glimpse as my personal, design inspirational blog.
